Scripture: Most of the songs found in this songbook were inspired by a specific scripture or verse. On each page you will find that scripture. I encourage you to read the scripture while listening, perhaps the Lord will speak to you through this verse as he spoke to me.

Story: There is a story behind most songs I write. Frequently something going on in my life starts the writing process. For me it is these experiences that bring a scripture to life and that scripture in turn becomes a song. This part of the songbook will not be of much interest to any but the chronically curious, but for those who suffer from this malady I offer a little insight into what makes me tick.

MP3 files

There are several formats for digital audio available today but none are as prevelent on the internet as Mp3s. Mp3s are compressed (smaller in size) for easy storage and fast transfer over the internet. Mp3s also stream well which means the first part of the song plays while the remainder of the song is downloading. These files can be played on any one of a number of mp3 players such as Windows Media Player, Winamp and Real Player. These, as well as other Mp3 players, are freely available for download at downloads.com

Midi files

Midi files are essentially the background tracks I use to record Mp3s. The problem with Midi files is their sound quality will depend on your computers sound card. Some sound cards, particularly older FM cards, make these files sound real bad. Most newer cards on the other hand use wave table technology and Midi files will sound pretty good when played on one of them. In my small home studio I use a Roland Sound Canvas module to play and record Midi files.

NWC files

Nwc files are created with a program called Noteworthy Composer. I have been using this music publishing software for years and have found it to be both inexpensive and user friendly. Nwc files play like midi files yet are viewed as manuscripts. As far as I am concerned it's the best of both worlds. In order to open these files you will need to either download and install Noteworthy Composer or the Noteworthy browser plugin for Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. The program, the plugin, installation instructions and details about which browsers are supported can all be found on the Noteworthy Composer Home Page.

PDF files

The great thing about Pdf files is that they can be read on Windows based system as well as on Macs. Like the Doc and Txt files you will find manuscripts, chord charts and lyric sheets available as Pdf files as well.

Mpeg files

In Nov of 2005 I posted an MPEG file for In Christ and introduced video content to Grace Street. This was just the begining and this new new format will be added to several other pages in the months to come. These files are larger than audio files and at the moment streaming is not available, so those connecting to the internet with dialup may encounter significant download times. Sorry. For those who find themselves waiting I cerainly hope that you find these short presentations worth the wait.
